Alain Parada Isada is a Cuban-Canadian ornithologist and environmental biologist with more than two decades of experience in avian research, field observation, and ecological monitoring.

Parada holds a Master of Science in Ecology and Conservation from Trent University in Ontario, Canada, where he conducted radio telemetry studies on the fall migration of Blackpoll Warblers and Canada Warblers. His academic journey began with a Biology degree from the University of Havana, providing a foundation in both tropical and temperate ecosystems that continues to shape his work today.

A Life in Bird Science

Alain has authored and co-authored more than 40 publications focused on bird ecology, biodiversity, and island biogeography. His scientific contributions include co-authoring the first documented sighting of the Common Merganser (Mergus merganser) in Cuba and the Greater Antilles, published in the Florida Field Naturalist in 2014. He also reported the first recorded sighting of the Kirtland’s Warbler (Dendroica kirtlandii) in Cuba, featured in North American Birds in 2006.

These discoveries expanded the ornithological record of the Caribbean and highlight Alain’s strong foundation in both academic research and hands-on conservation — a combination that defines his approach to environmental science.

Now based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Alain works as an Environmental Biologist, contributing to ecological surveys, environmental assessments, and conservation projects across the province. He is also a committed member of the birding community, regularly participating in initiatives like eBird’s October Big Day and Christmas Bird Counts. His fieldwork supports both local biodiversity and global migration research, bridging science with public engagement and encouraging a deeper connection to nature.
